This course targets players in the health industry. It is designed to equip them with the basics of Geographic Information Science and QGIS, with the overall goal of enhancing scientifically-informed decision-making in the health sector. The course will enable them to add spatial dimension to health data to spatial map them. It will enable them to visualize the data in form of graphs/charts and maps/cartograms that are attached to the spatial dimension. From the graphs, trend analysis will enable predictive inference that may guide in deliberately influencing variables to achieve a desired outcome. From the maps, detection of hot-spots may aid in resource-allocation to encourage/discourage growth of the hot-spots. Further, maps reveal spatial-temporal spread of a health factor thus enabling forecasting the areas that the factor will affect/ fail to affect with time. Depending on the spatial trend, the factor may be influenced positively/ negatively to encourage/ discourage the spatio-temporal spread. QGIS has been selected as the training software as it is free.
